Best of Both Words Maines-Panier Translations is the result of a chance encounter, a shared passion and journey and a desire to provide a unique set of skills and services in the world of translation.

Our team is composed of a French-American duo, each bilingual and each possessing a native tongue in either French or English. In this manner, working in tandem on translation projects, we ensure a high quality end result. Both of our team members possess a PhD from reputable European universities and we believe that the doctoral experience provides more than a specialisation in a particular subject matter. Indeed, it encourages a hunger for continued learning, an appreciation for the importance of attention to detail, and for the process of a how a thought is translated to the written word. This is the background and skill set that we bring to each translation project that we undertake.

Best of Both Words Maines-Panier Translations est le résultat d’une rencontre fortuite, d’une passion partagée et d’un parcours commun, ainsi que de la volonté de fournir un ensemble de compétences et de services unique dans le monde de la traduction.

Notre équipe est composée d’un duo franco-américain, tous les deux bilingues et possédant chacun une langue maternelle en français ou en anglais. De cette manière, en travaillant en tandem sur les projets de traduction, nous assurons un résultat final de haute qualité. Les deux membres de notre équipe sont titulaires d’un doctorat provenant d’universités européennes réputées et sommes persuadés que l’expérience du doctorat apporte bien plus qu’une simple spécialisation. Elle encourage, en effet, une appétence pour l’apprentissage en continu, une appréciation pour l’importance de l’attention portée aux détails et au processus par lequel une pensée devient un récit. C’est ce bagage et cet ensemble de compétences que nous apportons à chaque projet de traduction que nous entreprenons.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree with Honors from Brown University (Rhode-Island – USA) and a PhD from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. My areas of expertise include funerary archaeology, anthropology and Prehistory, but also extend to questions of community, from an ethnographic and living culture perspective. I have always loved languages and writing, and my professional experience allowed me to deepen these interests through translation and publication work. I am American and have been living in France for over 10 years. I wrote my dissertation in French as a challenge to myself in the final stages of mastering my second language. This experience also provided me with the opportunity to continue to perfect my mastery of translation and adaptation to different norms and methods of expression. For the past 9 months I have worked with two important French archaeological journals within the Editorial Pole of the MSH Mondes in Nanterre, France. The diverse nature of my experiences, both personal and professional have prepared me to be a person who adapts easily to different environments, and who is rigorous, methodical, curious and motivated.

Titulaire d’une licence avec mention de Brown University (Rhode-Island – USA) et d’un doctorat de l’université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, mes domaines d’expertise comprennent l’archéologie funéraire, l’anthropologie et la Préhistoire, mais s’étendent également aux questions de communauté, dans une perspective ethnographique et de culture vivante. J’ai toujours aimé les langues et l’écriture, et mon expérience professionnelle m’a permis d’approfondir ces centres d’intérêts à travers des travaux de traduction et de publication. Américaine vivant en France depuis plus de 10 ans, je me suis lancée le défi personnel de rédiger ma thèse en français. Cette expérience m’a fourni l’opportunité de poursuivre le perfectionnement de ma maîtrise de la traduction et de mes capacités d’adaptation à différentes normes et méthode d’expressions. Au cours des 9 derniers mois, j’ai travaillé avec deux importantes revues archéologiques françaises au sein du pôle éditorial de la MSH Mondes à Nanterre, France. La diversité de mes expériences, tant personnelles que professionnelles, m’a préparée à être une personne qui s’adapte facilement à différents environnements, et qui est rigoureuse, méthodique, curieuse et motivée.

Fascinated by medieval architecture and curious by nature, I have had the opportunity to participate in many international projects that familiarised me with the world of research in France, as well as abroad. During my studies, I also spent several months at Brown University (Rhode-Island – USA). While I particularly enjoyed the doctoral experience, I also maintained a presence in the working world throughout my studies. Since my defense, I worked at Sciences Po (Paris) as a research engineer in archival and data documentation related to Open research. This experience allowed me to broaden my horizons and learn more about methodologies in social science. My extensive experience in rescue archaeology, as well as university run programs, both in urban and rural contexts, have provided me with a thorough understanding of the expectations and objectives of such projects. It is this spirit of inquiry, imagination and attention to detail that I bring to all my endeavors. Having written and collaborated on excavation reports, articles and chapters of books with an archaeological scope in French, as well as in English, I have at heart to translate your texts and projects with precision and within the established deadlines.

Passionné par l’architecture médiévale et curieux par nature, j’ai eu la chance de participer à de nombreux projets internationaux qui m’ont familiarisé au monde de la recherche en France comme à l’étranger. Durant mes études j’ai également réalisé un séjour de plusieurs mois à Brown University (Rhode-Island – USA). Si j’ai particulièrement apprécié l’expérience doctorale, j’ai aussi gardé un pied dans le monde du travail tout au long de mes études. Depuis ma soutenance, j’ai occupé un poste au sein de Sciences Po (Paris) en tant qu’ingénieur d’études en archives et documentation de données de la recherche concernant les questions liées à la Science Ouverte. Ce dernier m’a permis d’élargir mes horizons et d’apprendre davantage sur les méthodologies des sciences sociales. Disposant d’une excellente expérience en fouilles préventives et programmées, aussi bien en contexte urbain que rural, je maitrise parfaitement les attentes et objectifs de tels projets. C’est cet esprit d’enquête, cette capacité d’imagination et d’attention aux détails que j’apporte à tous mes projets. Ayant participé à la rédaction de rapports de fouilles, d’articles et de chapitres d’ouvrages à portée archéologique en français comme en anglais, j’ai à cœur de traduire au plus près vos textes et projets dans les délais impartis.
